I completely agree with your thoughts- im v sick of entertainment being so 'simple'- but thats the way WE see it, and its a long way before we can get MASS Televsion which is topical, rebellious and the like because only so many of us can 'afford' it. If I've had a screwed up day at work or at home...slaving over essentials like water, fire etc, i dont wanna deal with social or 'real' angst. i want la la land...or kla kla kland.

to critique (nitpick)
you havnt touched upon the rise of the media planner/ buyer/ fmcg/ 'reach/ots-monger' in all this.
further, you could compare the rise of tv entertainment in india and the sameness therof in the context of:
a- the rise of other 'like or comparable' 3rd wrld tv mkts...brazil? mexico? etc
b- the sameness there exists or existed in the context of bollywood films say...in the late 60s & 70s wrt the subject matter that you find repetedly in Bollywood cinema.

My thoughts...but you know im the kinda guy that likes to argue.
